BIG4 Atherton Woodlands supports wildlife recovery with their Eco Cabins

BIG4 Atherton Woodlands Tourist Park has sponsored a turtle named Woody. Each night spent in an Eco Cabin at BIG4 Atherton Woodlands contributes to a monthly donation the park makes to the Cairns Turtle Rehabilitation Centre and Woody’s ongoing recovery.

Woody is a juvenile Hawksbill turtle who was found floating between Cairns and Green Island. A member of the public spotted him and reported him to the QLD Parks Rangers who picked him up and took him to the Marlin Coast Veterinary Hospital for a check up. Woody was severely underweight and not interested in eating for over 6 weeks, during which time he was force fed.

Now, thanks to sponsorship from the team at BIG4 Atherton, Woody is on the road to recovery and eats between 24-28 squid a day. To continue to help with his ongoing recovery, the team at BIG4 Atherton have made it so that each stay in any of their Eco Cabins contributes to a monthly donation they are making to the Cairns Turtle Rehabilitation Centre located on Fitzroy Island  to support Woody.

Stay in an Eco Cabins at Atherton Woodlands to support the Cairns Turtle Rehabilitation Centre

BIG4 Atherton Woodlands has a range of eco cabins, whether it be The Lodge, sleeping up to 6, the Eco Family Villa, sleeping up to 4, or the open plan Eco Cabins, ideal for couples. All are fully self contained, with all facilities including Foxtel, however they are unique in that they are solar powered with the solar providing energy for hot water, LED lighting and heat extraction – reducing the need for air conditioning. The solar is completely stand alone and feeds a large battery system. The Lodge and Family Villa are a little more special with balconies made from recycled plastic bottles.

These cabins have achieved Eco Certification from Eco Tourism Australia and are an Australian Government initiative under the Tourism Quality Project Funding scheme and the Tourism Industry Regional Development Fund..
